unspoken rizz

/un-SPOH-kun RIZ/ Beginner Updated

Unspoken rizz is charm that works without saying a word: a look, a half-smile, a nod from across the room. If someone gets your attention without even trying, they have unspoken rizz.

What it means

Rizz is charm or flirting skill. Normal rizz usually means smooth talking: good lines, good texts. Unspoken rizz skips all that. It’s the person who doesn’t have to say anything because their presence does the work.

On TikTok in 2022, “unspoken rizz” turned into a trend where people tried to win someone over with nothing but eye contact and a little beckoning gesture. Most of the videos were played for laughs.

Examples

  • “He didn’t say a word, just raised one eyebrow. Unspoken rizz.”
  • “She walked in and the whole table went quiet. That’s unspoken rizz.”
  • “I tried unspoken rizz on the barista and she asked if I had something in my eye.”

Where it came from

“Rizz” was popularized by Twitch streamer Kai Cenat and his friends in 2021, and it’s believed to be clipped from the middle of “charisma.” Know Your Meme says the first “unspoken rizz” among that group was a quote tweet by streamer Duke Dennis in September 2021. TikTok videos in April 2022 made it a trend.

When Oxford named “rizz” its Word of the Year for 2023, its announcement mentioned “unspoken rizz” as one of the variations people use.

Other kinds of rizz

  • W rizz: great charm (W for win).
  • L rizz or negative rizz: charm that pushes people away.
  • Unspoken rizz: charm without words.
