rekt
Rekt is a misspelling of “wrecked,” meaning badly beaten, destroyed or embarrassed. “Get rekt” is a classic gamer taunt after winning.
What rekt means
If you got rekt, you lost in a big, humiliating way: in a game, an argument, a trade, or even on a night out. Dictionary.com defines it as wrecked or messed up, and also as soundly defeated. The deliberate misspelling makes it sound more mocking than the plain word.
In crypto and trading communities, being rekt means losing a lot of money on a bad bet.
Examples
- “Get rekt, noob.”
- “I got absolutely rekt in that last match.”
- “His argument got rekt in the replies.”
- “Bought the top, now I’m rekt.” (trading)
Is “get rekt” toxic?
It can be. Saying it to a friend you just beat is banter. Spamming it at strangers is bad sportsmanship, the same kind of taunting that gets “gg ez” filtered in some games.
Where rekt comes from
Dictionary.com dates rekt to the early 2010s. According to Know Your Meme, an Urban Dictionary entry from June 2011 used it to mean very drunk, and a 2012 World of Warcraft forum thread titled “Get Rekt Ally Scrublords” shows the gaming taunt already in use.
