EZ

EZ means “easy.” In gaming, typing “ez” or “gg ez” after a win taunts the other team by implying they were no challenge at all.

What EZ means

Outside games, “ez” is just a quick way to say something was simple: “that test was ez.” In multiplayer games it’s usually an insult. “GG” (good game) is polite on its own; adding “ez” flips it into “good game, that was easy,” which tells the losers they were bad.

Why “gg ez” is considered toxic

Because it rubs salt in the wound. Most players accept losing; being told it was effortless is what stings. In August 2016, Overwatch even added a filter that automatically replaced “gg ez” with silly messages such as “Well played. I salute you all.” and “It’s past my bedtime. Please don’t tell my mommy,” as Kotaku and PC Gamer reported.

Where EZ comes from

EZ is simply a phonetic spelling of “easy.” Know Your Meme found an Urban Dictionary entry for “EZ” from 2003 and one defining “GGEZ” as an end-of-match taunt from June 2016.
