The term is borrowed from business, where a hard launch is a full public release of a product. In relationships it’s the moment a couple goes official on social media. Often it comes after a soft launch, the stage where you only post hints like a hand on a table or two coffee cups.

A hard launch signals that things are serious, or at least that you want people to think so. Merriam-Webster describes it as an emphatic public declaration of a relationship.
