full send

/FUL SEND/ Beginner Updated

Full send means going all-in: committing to something bold or risky with no hesitation and no holding back. “Send it” is the command version, shouted right before someone attempts the jump, the stunt or the questionable decision.

What it means

The classic full send is physical: hitting a ramp at top speed, jumping off the high rock into the lake, launching a snowmobile off a hill. But people use it for everyday commitment too. Booking a trip the same day, quitting a job to start a business, writing an entire essay the night before it’s due: full send.

Dictionary.com notes that the point is to go to the extreme even if it ends in failure. A full send that goes wrong is still a full send.

Examples

  • “Ramp’s huge. You doing it or not?” “Full send.”
  • “Didn’t study, didn’t sleep, took the exam anyway. Full send.”
  • “He yelled ‘SEND IT’ and immediately regretted everything.”

Where it came from

According to Dictionary.com, “send” started as rock-climbing slang in the 1990s for completing a route cleanly, then moved into snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking and skateboarding. “Full send” emerged in the 2010s.

Two moments made it famous. In March 2017, a Facebook video of Canadian Larry Enticer jumping a snowmobile went viral and made “send it” a catchphrase; it landed him on Tosh.0. And the Canadian YouTube prank group Nelk turned “Full Send” into a catchphrase and a brand, later trademarking it and launching a clothing line and podcast under the name.

A word of caution

The phrase celebrates doing risky things without overthinking them, which is the fun of it. It’s also how a lot of people end up in the ER. Check the landing before you send it.
