periodt

Periodt is an emphatic way of saying “period”: end of discussion, and that’s final. It’s added to the end of a statement to show you’re completely sure and won’t be argued with.

What does periodt mean?

Saying “period” at the end of a sentence (as in a full stop) means “that’s all there is to it.” Periodt, with an extra “t” sound at the end, makes it stronger and sassier. It’s often used to back up a confident opinion, a compliment or a boundary.

It’s sometimes written “period” or “periodt” and is often doubled for drama: “periodt, periodt.”

• “I’m not texting him first. Periodt.”
• “You deserve better, periodt.”
• “Sunday is for rest, periodt.”

Periodt vs. no cap and facts

No cap insists something is true. “Facts” agrees that it’s true. Periodt shuts the conversation down: it’s true and there’s nothing more to say.

Where periodt comes from

Dictionary.com traces periodt to Black English, specifically Southern Black gay slang, and notes it’s also found in drag culture. The rap duo City Girls helped bring it to a wider audience with their 2018 song “Period (We Live),” and it spread through Black Twitter in 2019 before going mainstream on social media.
