Skibidi

/ˈskɪb.ɪ.di/ Intermediate Updated

Skibidi is a nonsense word that took over Gen Alpha slang thanks to the YouTube series Skibidi Toilet. It doesn’t have one fixed meaning. Kids use it as a silly intensifier, a joke insult, or just a random word to sound in on the meme.

What does skibidi mean?

Merriam-Webster describes skibidi as a nonsense word used as an absurd expression or meme. In practice it fills whatever gap a speaker wants: something can be “so skibidi,” a weird person can be “skibidi,” and it can stand in for a swear word, as in “what the skibidi.” Phrases like “skibidi Ohio rizz” pile several memes together for comedic effect.

If you are a parent hearing it at the dinner table, the short version is: it is a meme word, mostly harmless, and part of the joke is that it doesn’t really mean anything.

How kids use it

  • “That test was so skibidi.”
  • “Bro is acting skibidi today.”
  • “What the skibidi is going on?”
  • “Stop saying skibidi in front of Grandma.”

Where it comes from

Skibidi Toilet is an animated YouTube series by Alexey Gerasimov, posted on his channel DaFuq!?Boom!, that debuted in February 2023. It shows singing human heads popping out of toilets battling characters with cameras for heads. The “skibidi” sound comes from scat-style singing in a song remix used in early episodes. The series became enormous with young viewers, and the word escaped into playgrounds and comment sections everywhere.
