quiet luxury
Quiet luxury means expensive clothing that doesn’t show off: no logos, no flashy details, just high-quality fabrics and perfect fit. The idea is that people who know will recognise it, and everyone else won’t notice.
What is quiet luxury?
Quiet luxury is the opposite of logo-heavy designer fashion. Instead of a giant monogram, it’s a plain cashmere sweater that costs as much as a laptop. Neutral colours, minimal styling and excellent tailoring signal wealth subtly. It’s closely related to “stealth wealth,” the habit of keeping riches low-key.
The quiet luxury look
- Clothes: cashmere knits, tailored trousers, simple coats, plain baseball caps.
- Colours: beige, camel, grey, navy, cream, black.
- Brands often named: Loro Piana, The Row, Brunello Cucinelli.
- Rule: no visible logos.
How to use quiet luxury
- “No logos anywhere, but that coat is clearly quiet luxury.”
- “The whole cast of Succession dressed in quiet luxury.”
- “I’m going for quiet luxury on a budget: plain, good-quality basics.”
Where quiet luxury comes from
The trend peaked in 2023. Wikipedia credits HBO’s Succession, whose wealthy characters wore discreet, expensive basics, with fuelling it. That March, Gwyneth Paltrow’s understated courtroom wardrobe during her Utah ski-accident trial was widely discussed as stealth-wealth dressing. By early 2024, some reports were already calling the trend outdated.
