lazy girl job
A lazy girl job is an easygoing, usually remote or office job that pays decently and leaves you energy for a life outside work. Despite the name, it’s less about being lazy than about refusing to let work take over.
What lazy girl job means
Wikipedia describes a lazy girl job as an easy, usually white-collar job with good pay where an employee can quietly do the minimum. Typical examples are steady, low-stress roles: a remote admin job, a customer-success position, an office job with flexible hours. The appeal is predictability: clock in, do good-enough work, log off.
The creator of the term has said it’s not really about celebrating laziness. Wikipedia quotes her describing it as a marketing gimmick to raise awareness of toxic workplace expectations, and says men can have lazy girl jobs too.
Examples
- “I left the startup for a lazy girl job and I finally have hobbies again.”
- “Remote, flexible, $60k, nobody emails after five. Peak lazy girl job.”
- “Is data entry a lazy girl job or just boring?”
Where it came from
Wikipedia says the term was coined in 2023 by Gabrielle Judge, known online as “antiworkgirlboss,” in response to hustle culture, the Great Resignation and worker exploitation. It spread quickly across social media. Reactions have been mixed: Wikipedia lists critics who called it defeatist or warned that “lazy” jobs could be replaced by AI.
